Why having chores around the home is important for children
When I was growing up doing chores around the house was expected, and was not even rewarded with a monetary bonus. My sister and I were expected to clean our own bedrooms, make our beds, my mom was very strict, expecting us to use hospital corners (this was during the pre-duvet days). We were expected to do the dishes every night, feed the dogs and yes, we even had to do the dreaded “dog poo patrol”. During the school holidays we were expected to help my mom with the housework which involved hand polishing parquet floors. We also had to help my dad wash and polish the car. Guess what, we survived all of this and research now shows that doing chores is in fact good for children.
